Annual Popola and Momola Senior Trip
We are so thankful to have such a supportive and passionate community, we are very thankful for having the opportunity to give back to the growing Tibetan community in Toronto.
We would also like to thank everyone that helped to make this trip possible; your support and initiative during the planning and execution of the trip was incredible!
Seeing the smiles and experiencing all the intergenerational exchanges during these trips were fruitful and rewarding! We look forward to creating more events for both youth and seniors in our community to practice gratitude, learn from one another and to fill the generational gap. We believe that building such relationships will not only help the younger generation stay in touch with their Tibetan roots but also learn from their elders about our Tibetan language, culture and history. We hope this was a fulfilling experience for everyone who joined us yesterday and for those who missed it this summer, not to worry – we will be hosting one next summer as well!

2019 Summer Volleyball Zom Zom
This summer we’ve had the opportunity to organize a youth volleyball ZomZom (gathering) here in Toronto. The primary focus of this event is to bring Tibetan and non Tibetan youth together in a fun and informal setting, while promoting health and wellness. We are so grateful to have shared this moment with everyone, to be able to be in a space with Tibetan and non Tibetan youth, to be able to rejoice, be active and create a bond with one another.
We hope to create many more opportunities in the near future and create spaces for one another, to learn and to celebrate our identities.
“ After being aware of this volleyball Zomzom organized by Nineteen59. I was interested in joining and supporting a positive cause, at the same time meeting new people and having a blast. It was an attempt towards bring towards bringing youth together to communicate, network and have fun besides the more common alternative of club party options. This not only brings out youth together, but you also have good sincere conscious conversations with different individuals. Although it was an Tibetan organized event, the beauty was that people from all walks of life were welcome. Taking part in this, I initially no team members and knew that I was going to meet new faces whom I’m not familiar with. I finally met my team member and his name was Sid, after several conversations I realized how he had such a big personality and the more I talked to him the more we had experiences in common. I later realized that he was my old childhood friend, and we were united after so long.” - Kunga Yarphel, Participant
